Devil's Island

Great day at Iles du Salut, a group of three islands referred to as Devil’s Island. The three islands make up the notorious Devil’s Island penal colony. Devil’s Island is a small rocky islet located in the Atlantic Ocean in northern French Guiana. It was part of the French penal settlement in use from 1852 until 1946. The three islands are Ile du Diable (Devil’s Island), Ile Royale and Ile Ste-Joseph. Devil’s Island is truly a tropical paradise. Seeing it today it is hard to imagine the harsh conditions that once existed here. You probably know Devil’s Island from the novel Papillon….great book & movie. It was an exceptionally hot, muggy, spectacular day. Tomorrow is a day at sea and we enter the Amazon in a couple of days….can’t wait. Going to be hot and muggy…rain forest, could impact my tanning.

Oh By the way.....Yesterday was a day at sea for those of you that enquired as to why there was no posting. Just a relaxing day! You need one of those occasionally…sitting in a lounge chair in the sun every day is exhausting. Went to the alternative restaurant, the Pinnacle Grill last night. The food was fabulous. The crab cakes I had as a starter were tremendous and the large filet mignon I had was….perfect!
