Colon, Panama

Today we had weather that is fairly typical for Panama...overcast skies and rain. I went on a shore excursion to check out the Embera Indian culture. We first went to the Melia Panama Canal, a luxury hotel here in Colon. It is from here that we boarded our boats to head out to the island where this particular group of Embera Indians live. On this particular island there are about 18 people living day to day. With relatives and visitors they can have up to 45 people there on any given day. The chief talked with us about the Embera Indian culture and answered questions...very informative. They also did some traditional dances and had the tour group up dancing as well....my war wound kept me from participating. We went up the hill to check out the rest of the village....very interesting. On our way back we came across a good size caiman (gator)....very cool.
