Boca da Valeria

Today we visited Boca da Valeria, which means “mouth of Valeria river”. It is a tiny town with only 30 something residents. However, when the big ship comes a calling, they come from miles around. They bring their crafts and wares to sell. It was our opportunity to see up close the primitive conditions that these Caboclo, river dwellers, live under. While we were there, we went aboard on of there local small boats to explore the river for about 1-1.5 hours. It was great to experience the local river transportation. We also spent a good part of the day watching the pink river dolphins frolicking in the water. They are amazing to see….very pink!
